Washington U.S. defense officials are reportedly increasing contingency planning for a potential Pentagon-led operation involving Cuba, amid growing tensions between Washington and Havana.

According to sources familiar with the matter, military planning has quietly intensified in recent weeks in case former President Donald Trump, if in office, were to authorize intervention on the island. The individuals spoke on condition of anonymity, as they were not authorized to discuss internal deliberations publicly.

The developments appear to reflect a broader escalation in U.S.–Cuba relations, which have been strained since January, when the Trump administration moved to restrict oil shipments to Cuba. The policy shift was part of a wider effort aimed at pressuring the Cuban government toward significant political and economic reforms.

In a statement, the Pentagon emphasized that it routinely prepares for a wide range of scenarios and remains ready to execute any lawful orders issued by the president. Officials did not confirm specific operational planning related to Cuba.
