IAEA Says No Evidence of Damage to Iran’s Nuclear Facilities After Recent Attacks

The United Nations nuclear watchdog announced Monday that it has not detected any signs of damage to Iran’s nuclear facilities following recent military strikes, despite claims from Iranian officials that a key enrichment site was targeted.

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), told an emergency meeting of the agency’s Board of Governors that inspectors have not yet found evidence that Iran’s nuclear infrastructure was hit.

“So far, we have no indication that any nuclear installation in Iran has been damaged,” Grossi said. He specifically mentioned the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, the Tehran Research Reactor, and other nuclear fuel facilities as sites that appear unaffected.

However, Grossi noted that communication with Iranian nuclear authorities has been difficult since the attacks. Efforts to reach regulators through the agency’s emergency communication channels have not yet received a response.

The IAEA’s Incident and Emergency Centre remains fully operational and is coordinating with regional safety networks. According to the agency, radiation monitoring systems in neighboring countries have not detected any abnormal levels.

Concerns Over Strikes on Nuclear Sites

Grossi warned that attacks on nuclear facilities pose significant risks, potentially causing radioactive contamination that could spread beyond national borders.

He reminded the international community that past IAEA resolutions strongly discourage military strikes on nuclear infrastructure because of the potentially catastrophic consequences.

Grossi urged all parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint in order to prevent further escalation.

Call for a Return to Diplomacy

The IAEA chief also emphasized the need to restart diplomatic efforts regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

According to Grossi, renewed negotiations are essential to ensure Iran does not develop nuclear weapons and to maintain the credibility of the global nuclear non-proliferation system.

Iran Says Natanz Facility Was Targeted

Meanwhile, Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA, Reza Najafi, stated that U.S. and Israeli forces had carried out strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, including the Natanz uranium enrichment site.

Natanz is Iran’s primary enrichment facility and has long been at the center of international concerns over the country’s nuclear activities.

Although no radiation leak has been detected, Grossi stressed that the situation remains serious and could still pose risks if the conflict escalates further.

Iran Demands International Condemnation

During the meeting, Iran called on the IAEA to officially condemn the attacks on its nuclear infrastructure.

Najafi also rejected accusations that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, describing such claims as false.

He warned that Iran would continue its response as long as what Tehran describes as ongoing aggression persists.
