Trump Calls for International Naval Coalition as Iran Tightens Control Over Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has called for an international naval coalition to keep the Strait of Hormuz open after Iran signaled it could restrict shipping through the critical waterway.

In a message posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said several countries could join the United States in sending warships to secure the route.

According to the president, nations that rely heavily on energy shipments passing through the strait should participate in protecting the corridor.

Trump specifically mentioned China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom as countries he hopes will contribute naval forces to the effort.

Strategic Waterway

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important shipping routes in the world, with roughly 20 percent of global oil supplies passing through the narrow passage between Iran and Oman.

Tensions have risen sharply as Iran warned that ships belonging to hostile nations could be blocked from entering the strait during the ongoing conflict.

Trump’s Statements

In his post, Trump claimed that US forces had already significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities.

However, he acknowledged that Iran could still conduct limited attacks using drones, mines, or short-range missiles targeting vessels in the region.

The president said the United States would continue military operations along the Iranian coastline if necessary to keep the waterway open.

Trump pledged that the strait would remain “open, safe, and free.”

Iran Responds

Iranian officials quickly pushed back against Trump’s comments.

Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said the strait had not been fully closed but remains under Iranian control.

He also criticized the United States for what he described as inaccurate claims regarding Iran’s naval capabilities.

In a message posted on social media platform X, Tangsiri wrote that American officials had previously claimed to have destroyed Iran’s navy and were now asking other countries to assist them in the region.

The standoff has raised concerns among governments and energy markets around the world.

Any disruption in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz could have significant consequences for global oil supplies and international trade.

As tensions continue to escalate, observers warn that the situation could further destabilize the Middle East and global energy markets.
