A lifelong Democrat from Texas says that watching President Donald Trump’s 2026 State of the Union address completely changed her perception of him and even made her more likely to vote in the upcoming midterm elections.
She explains that, for the first time, she wasn’t bored, frustrated, or skeptical during a presidential speech. Instead, she found herself agreeing with nearly every point Trump made. She praised his business-focused approach to the economy, tariffs, and his emphasis on celebrating Americans directly impacted by his policies.
According to her, Trump’s message of putting the country first and highlighting economic improvements resonated deeply. She was also disappointed to see elected officials refuse to acknowledge the families and individuals harmed by previous policy decisions.
The writer argues that Democrats should give Trump the same space and cooperation they once offered previous administrations. She believes his decisions are motivated by the country’s best interests and that many of the changes he has made are producing real results.
She also criticized congressional Democrats for their behavior during the speech, saying she felt embarrassed by their lack of respect and unwillingness to recognize the office of the presidency.
Ultimately, she says the experience had a clear political consequence: she plans to vote in the midterms — and she will not support the Democrats currently in office.
